This year, we're working on lightening our eco-footprint by celebrating green holidays. Here are some ways others can do the same:
1. Give gifts that have the potential to make a positive impact on the environment. Teach a kid how to
fundraise for non-profits, offer to babysit for new parents so they can do some volunteer work, or spend some time donating your own efforts.
2.
Recycle wrapping paper - or just skip to gift bags you can reuse every year!. Give gifts that can be experienced, like tickets to a sporting event, a homemade dinner, or other consumables and skip wrapping all together!
3.
Recycle that tree! Don't let it go to landfill. Bring it to be turned into mulch
Earth 911 can help you find a location near you.
4. Of course, you can also choose to forego the massive holiday light displays and instead, choose to decorate your home with a
small amount of LED lights. LED lights can use 90% electrictiy. If you can't get new lights this year, at least make sure you put your old ones on timers.
5. We here at BKFK are doing our part as well and sending out e-cards.
What can you do? What should you do? If you're a teen and you have more (and better!) ideas for how to make changes that will make a large or small impact on the planet, you should enter them into the
Going Green Challenge here at BKFK.com.
