Founder of Mother's Day

It's time to celebrate those special ladies in our life, not to mention the woman who started it all! At 12, Anna Harvis was inspired to celebrate Mother's Day when her mother said a class prayer:

"I hope that someone, sometime will found a memorial mothers day commemorating her for the matchless service she renders to humanity in every field of life. She is entitled to it."

Anna never forgot this prayer and dedicated her life to fulfill her mother's dream. She spent years publicizing her idea until in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a congressional resolution officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.
